Waikoloa center hosts Celebration of Hula

Waikoloa Beach Resort invites Big Island residents and visitors to celebrate the arrival of summer with the resort’s first Celebration of Hula event, scheduled to take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the new Queens’ Gardens. This free event, which presents authentic Hawaiian music, dance and chant, takes guests on a journey through the history of hula — starting with a kahiko (or ancient style of hula) through today’s modern style known as auana — and will feature the talent of kumu hula Keala Ching and his halau, Halau Ka Pa Hula Na Wai Iwi Ola.

“The Celebration of Hula event was created to celebrate and perpetuate Hawaii’s rich cultural tradition of hula,” said Debbie Parmley, vice president of Waikoloa Land Co. “We encourage everyone to join us for a memorable and relaxing evening with family and friends.”

Completed this year, Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Queens’ Gardens offers Queens’ MarketPlace shoppers as well as guests and Big Island residents visiting Waikoloa Beach Resort a one-of-a-kind amenity. Queens’ Gardens is a world-class recreational and event featuring an open-air garden surrounded by a sloping, terraced lawn, with views of Mauna Kea and the scent of the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

Biodiesel available in Kailua-Kona

Hawaii Petroleum Inc., through its fueling sites, the Hawaii Fueling Network, is now selling B20 biodiesel at its Kailua-Kona facility on Kaiwi Street in the Old Industrial Area (next to the Gas Co.).

“Biodiesel is one of the fuels of the future,” said Hawaii Petroleum’s sales manager for the Big Island. “It’s creates better performance than regular diesel fuel, is less toxic, safer to handle, biodegradable and less expensive.” “Using BioDiesel can reduce CO2 emissions and our dependence on fossil fuels and help to improve Kona’s air quality.”

“Hawaii Petroleum is committed to ‘going green,’ and we will be among the first to offer new products that support that commitment.”

“We hope to have biodiesel available at most of our locations by 2010.”

Hawaii Petroleum was established in 1969 and has seven fueling locations on the Big Island. Several of its facilities are open 24 hours, seven days a week and all locations offer a wide range of fuels and lubricants, self service fueling, competitive pricing and fleet pricing.
